So, I know y’all non-existent people who read my journal were truly looking forward to hearing more about my church experiences today, but I am exhausted, so I thought I would journal a little bit as that is a little easier than writing fiction or the distant past. Anyway, it’s probably best to start from the beginning.

This spring break my friend J was kind enough to let me stay with her and her family. So on Friday, around four, me, friend J, her sister and Friend Je traveled up to historic Maryland to stay for the week of spring break. On Saturday, Friend J and I walked her dog and then went to her other sister’s color guard competition, which was really cool and interesting, because I had never really seen a color guard competition before, and I got to see the high school girls and boys throw flags and rifles and sabers up in the air and then catch them after so many revolutions (this is also where I have picked up my recent love of Florence + the Machine).

After that we went to meet Friend J’s friend, Friend L, to have a picnic in the park. Friend L was (and is) nice, but did not like my potato salad, which was irksome, considering it’s my dad’s recipe for potato salad and I’m really proud of it (I have it memorized, and speaking of the potatoes; the first bag that Friend J handed me she told me might not be good. So I reached in and felt one of the potatoes and said that it felt a little slimy, and low and behold when I looked in the bag, the potato right next to it was covered in mold. Black and white slimy mold. Yum. But I worked kind of hard to make the potato salad and even though it came out a little dry, Friend J liked it, so I decided not to hold it against Friend L that she does not like pickles or eggs or mustard.) And Friend L brought this really interesting thing called peanut chicken. The chicken isn’t made of peanuts or anything, but she made a sauce from peanuts that you then dip chicken in (and possibly edamame, though I ate my soy plain).

Then we decided we wanted something sweet, so we went back to Friend J’s house and made a chocolate cake and chocolate frosting which was freaking delicious. Friend L and I also showed Friend J the Rebecca Black video (it’s ridicules, but she hadn’t seen it so we had to give her some frame of reference to make fun of it). Later we watched Ever After with Friend J’s mom (and Friend L of course). Friend L left her cooler and soy beans and peanut sauce at the house.

Sunday (which comes after Saturday according to Rebecca Black) we went to church with Friend L, to this kind of strange non-denominational church. Worship was a little long, but I was cool with that. The thing that weirded me out the most was this prophecy thing they did after the worship. Friend L told us the story about how one guy once saw Jesus as a bartender and he was handing out the best beer for free. Methinks this might be allegorical, but the guy also could have been kind of crazy. Mostly, I just have to emphasize that with non-denominational churches, since they place an emphasis on scripture, there are no rules, so sometimes you get something you think is weird.

After church, we ate some lunch and then Friend J’s dad took us down to DC and we went and looked at the air and space museum for a little while. We had a snack in the Castle café and were going to go visit the Lincoln Memorial before we left, but Friend J’s dad accidently (and I don’t mean this sarcastically for those who would read it that way) but us back on the belt way back toward where they live. It was okay, because Friend J ns I were both tired, and we both fell asleep on the ride to and from DC. I think it was our bodies’ way of predicting today, because, once again, I am kind of exhausted. (Not as exhausted as at Dover….more on that later).

So today, we woke up around four-thirty (probably closer to five though), so we could go and visit Friend L at her college because she just finished spring break. We got up so early, so we could miss the morning traffic somewhere along the trip. It would have been fine, but I don’t think either of us really started falling asleep until around ten. I remember because my certain alarm went off reminding me to take a certain pill, and I tossed in and out some time after that.

Anyway, I’m pretty sure we were on the road by like five ten, and Friend J cut me up some banana bread that her mom made yesterday and I got a yogurt and we were on the way. Friend J created this really loud playlist, full of Flyleaf, Rihanna, and, as she puts it, Ka-ching-ha to rock out to and stay awake to as we drove up to St. Mary’s College. Naturally, even with directions from Friend L and a GPS, we got lost and had to call and ask for a second set of direction, though that time we made it all right. But it rained, and rained I mean poured, and when we were going across this bridge (which was over a river, or some body of water), there was this intense fog, so we couldn’t see all of the bridge or where we were going, which was kind of cool, but also kind of scary at the same time.

But we finally make it to St. Mary’s and it’s pouring (naturally, I left my umbrella back at the house), and we had to have Friend L come out and get us, because we have no idea where her dorm is. But she gets us and it’s all right, and then Friend L takes us to the school cafeteria for breakfast, which we both ate again, because by the time we get there, it’s probably eight something. We were both grateful for it later, let me tell you.

So then Friend L showed us around the arts building, her favorite and where she had her morning classes. And we sat talking for a while, so Friend J could get updated about what’s going on in Friend L’s life. I fell asleep for like two minutes while Friend J and Friend L were talking and woke up when they were thinking of leaving me to go and get our stuff from the dorm room. Then we went and got our stuff from the dorm room, like the previous sentence implied we would. Then we went back to the arts buildings and met some of Friend L’s friend, and I get the feeling that Friend J felt a little left out of the whole thing, especially because she was extra special tired. Then Friend L went to class.

Then Friend J and I sat in the sitting area of this building for about an hour, both trying to catch a little bit of shut eye. Friend J called a lady back about an internship she got (I forgot to mention, she got this internship she was super excited about, she danced around and gave Friend L and I super special, powerful hugs when she got her message after we got back from breakfast). I tried calling my mom, but she was asleep, naturally, right? I also read my fifty pages for the day, but mostly, we just tried to relax and get a little energy.

Then a tour came through and we tried to sit up and look engaged. I think we might have failed though.

During Friend L’s second class, we tried to go and get Friend J’s coat which had her car keys in it, so that we could go lay down in the car for it, but could not figure out the number lock for the room in which we had left Friend J’s coat (This is why I take everything of mine with me everywhere, you never know when something like that is going to happen, and you’ll want to go lay down in a car). And so we went for a walk down by a lake which St. Mary’s has right in their back yard, and we saw a duck drift to one side and just sit there kind of peacefully for a minute.

Then we found a bench and scattered all around it were little sticks, and we peeled and shaved bark off of them until Friend L was done with class and we went to lunch. Friend J and I were fairly perked up by then, and then we went back to Friend L’s room and talked for a while, and she showed us a video called, “I Just Had Sex (ft. Akon).” Yes, it was interesting. I introduced them both to Eddie Izzard and then we started a Goofy Movie…I think. We also did a ponding (we threw Batman into the pond because it was her birthday) and I found Charlie Weasley (and took a picture, which will be forth coming once I get my camera cord). Anyway, we watched a Goofy Movie and then went to dinner, and then got back on the road…at like seven o’ clock.

It was later than I had expected but not all that dramatic. We listened to some kicking music again (although not so loud when we got started out) and sang along to everything. And then the rain started up again. And it was kind of cool: I mean I kid you not, there were some lightning flashes that lit up the place from horizon to horizon. It was amazing. There was also one scary incident where a diver splashed a ton of water on us, and Friend J had to break and nearly swerved out of the lane, but she’s a really good driver so we mostly did not have to worry about it.

We also missed an exit, which was not a big deal, because the GPS was working this time, so it just recalculated for us, and the second time we didn’t miss it. IT was also a little weird, because for some reason the GPS was speaking French. No one in Friend J’s family speaks French, so this was exceptionally weird.

We have also done a lot of talking and disclosure over the past couple of days, just about weird things the days remind us of, and the things that happen, and fears and things like that. I think Friend J and I are growing a little closer. I learned she’s thinking of transferring next year, and I got a feeling, like I just want her to be happy, but I’d be sad to see her go. I think that might be what you call friendship.

Also during the drive back I felt a little inspired, so I wrote some song lyrics. They are incomplete and for two different songs, but I think it counts.

Song One:
Look up to the sky,
There is light in the east
Melting the sky like
You melt me on the inside

Look up to the sky,
There is light through the night,
Flashing all around to guide you
Through the dark.

Song Two:
Cause life’s like and if you saw it coming it wouldn’t be half as much fun when you had to start going, and hey wake up man because it’s half past now and you’re late. Catch up quick because it’s going fast and you’ll never quite know just how long now is going to last.

Anyway, that’s all for now. I need sleep, and lots.
