Keira Zoe Page
Born April 6

At the beginning of Book One, Keira cuts her hair into a v bob, making her bangs longer than the back of her hair. Her hair itself is a dark, dark brown, but not entirely black, her eyes are almost like a sea green. She tans into a dark olive tone rather easily, and is mostly olive to begin with. Keira stands at about 5’6” at her normal height, standing straight up. She weighs roughly about one hundred thirty pounds. She is sixteen (going on seventeen) at the beginning of the comic, and nearly seventeen by the time the comic really gets rolling.

Her favorite color is turquoise and likes to wear light unrestrictive clothing. She is found of things with lots of pockets. Her interests include chemistry, biology, and other sciences as well as string orchestra music (contemporary as well as classical, post-modern and baroque). Her favorite foods are veal and baklava. As of this comic, she has also never been kissed, and is still a virgin.

Here’s the thing about Keira: she’s the quiet one you never see coming. Before she came to the Desert Compound Keira made straight A’s but tended not to take part in too many extracurricular due to her parents being rather overprotective of her and wanting to know where she was at all times. Instead of this making her rebel (which may have been eventually inevitable), it only served to make her withdraw from social company. She was probably a little naturally introverted though. Mostly, she enjoys being an intellectual, except when things are forced on her, and since coming to the compound has enjoyed becoming more athletic as well, though she has always enjoyed mountain climbing and hiking.

Also she manages to graduate high school fairly early, hoping to take a year off to travel, before applying to Columbia University where she would like to study biochemistry and genetics.

Keira during her time at the compound does go through a major self-confidence boost and goes through a big ordeal of self-discovery, she also tends to mediate between her peers quickly becoming the person who people would turn to, and thus putting her in the place of leadership. She also works on bonding the group together through shared experiences and helping each of them create a sense of empathy. She does not have an easy job.

The character she is probably closest to, though, is Cardea who is her roommate during their stay at the compound. Often melancholy (sometimes to the point of depression) Keira set Cardea off a few times during the early part of their relationship, because she did not react to Cardea’s violent ways. This led to a strong bond between the two because Cardea felt she could trust Keira, who did not report her, nor react very strongly toward her threats, and because Cardea would often speak for Keira during the early days of their therapy when Keira still felt a little insane.

She is the only one of the eight who volunteered to go to the desert compound. She did this, because she felt that she was suffering a psychotic break down, with school and especially her parents bearing down on her to do her best, but also hovering over her shoulder almost every second of the day. She chooses to go the program in the desert

Keira’s powers actually begin to manifest prior or the start of the comic. She begins hear voices in her head, which is half a manifestation of her telepathy and half a development of her knowing, which is a mix of pyschometry and other psychic abilities that allows her to be in the same space as something and learn about it in an instant, including people, history and even ability, as Keira picks up fighting skills and knowledge of how to use a gun, along with several other things. It becomes difficult (eventually) for her to learn physical abilities any other way simply because even when she turns the knowing off, it’s still in the back of her mind powering her muscle and long-term memory to an extent. But Keira also maintains her telepathic ability which allows her to focus simply on reading people’s thoughts and specific memories. Keira’s third power is her most offensive: telekinesis. At first, however, she does not have the specific will and command to control the telekinesis easily, but she learns quickly.
